| April 18, 2007 - Lenny's first 2007 baby has arrived |
|
Congratulations to Amber's new owner, Mary Munroe on a gorgeous filly.
Photos are up on the 2007 foals page.
We're still awaiting Roxy and Peanut's foals. Both mares are overdue now
and hopefully will deliver their babies shortly. Keep checking back.
Photos and info will be posted as soon as the babies arrive!

| Bison Demand... |
|
Hi Dwayne,
As with anything, demand is going to be dependant on your location and how
well you market your meat. Because Bison is a specialty meat, and within
Ontario, the supply is not sufficient to mass market it, most of the
marketing of meat is left to the individual producers. Most meat sales are
done from the farms, through farmers' markets, or through private contracts
with specialty food stores and restaurants.
That said, in general, within the province of Ontario, demand does exceed
supply. I know it is true in our case, we generally have a waiting list
for meat and most of what we butcher is sold before it even makes it home.
We are in a fortunate position of being close to large urban centres and
can draw on that population. Farms located in isolated areas, will, of
course, have a more difficult time marketing their meat.
I hope that helps answer your question. If not, let me know.

| Hi Kelli |
|
Hey Kelli just finally got a chance to get over here and check out your
foals from this year what gorgeous foals you have gotten out of Lenny
already this year and I can't wait to see some more of them. Sorry to hear
about your loss of one of Roxy's foal and of you mare Peanut. I am praying
that the rest of foaling season will go well for you. Solomen is HUGE and
I sticked him the other day and he is 15.2hh as a yearling wonder how big
he will be. I did send you new pics of him so you can put them on the
website if you would like but he has not yet shed out his coat. Have a
great day.

| Hi Stpehanie... |
|
Thanks for checking in, yes, Lenny has thrown some gorgeous babies this
year. Our little orphan is doing great, he's SO pretty, and a real little
firecracker. Now that the other mare's milk has dried up, we are trying to
introduce them, so that she can mother him and teach him to be a horse.
She has taken in weanlings and raised them before, and she seems interested
in Eddie, so we're crossing our fingers. We didn't want him nursing from
her after her losing her foal as we didn't know the cause of her death, and
couldn't risk it being bacterial or viral from the mare.
Hoping she will at least be able to be a teacher for him, and look out for
him enough that we can turn them out with the other mares and foals, once
their babies arrive.
Our Herbie, who I think was born almost the same day as Solomon, measured
out at 14.2 1/2 hands yesterday. He just turned a year old. He seems huge
to us, so Solomon must be a giant!

| Didn't get pics |

I don't think I've gotten any e-mails from you lately. Would love to see
the pics though. Have you decided if you want to sell him yet? I know you
were, and then were second guessing it, thinking you might want to keep
him. Can't blame you for that, he's gorgeous. If you're gonna keep him,
I'll take him off the sale page though.

Well, we have 4 bison calves now, think 2 boys, and 2 girls, but hard to
tell for sure. You can't really just go out and check with the bison, the
mothers get a little ornery about that. Just have to wait and watch.
Two more mares left to foal, Lottie and Zoe. Both are due in the next few
days, but not showing signs of impending labour yet. Both are well uddered
up and huge bellied, but doesn't appear like either foal has dropped yet.
Time to start foal watching in earnest though. One of them will be on
camera tonight.

| May 29, Zoe had a filly! |
|
Zoe was dripping milk and looking uncomfortable last night, and we thought
she might foal. Kept an eye on her through the night on the monitor in the
house, and around 2:00am she went into the one little corner I can't see
from the house. I waited for her to come back in range for a while and
figured I'd better go out and see.
Sure enough, there was a little wet sorrel filly trying to stand up
already. She is a nice big, pretty filly. I didn't have the digital
camera home, but will take photos soon and post them on the site.
